Hope was born in a manger
The unlikeliest place for a King
Inconceivable, unimaginable
Hope was not so hope-like.
In the form of a babe, helpless
With his tiny feeble fingers
Clinging to his mother
Hope was born with no splendour.
Before the world sang “Joy to the world!”
The Lord was awaiting his coming
Before the earth received her King,
The King longed to come to the earth.
Hope left all of his glory
And came down to give himself.
Who knew that this babe
So small and powerless
Would defeat the powers of sin
That redemption he would bring.
And all our transgression
On himself he would place.
Death would he defeat
To rise up victorious.
Before the world sang “Joy to the world!”
The Lord was awaiting his coming
Before the earth received her King,
The King longed to come to the earth.
Hope was hung on a tree
He rose up to give us hope unending.
You can be made whole in Him
You can have life eternal
All guilt and shame washed away
He can Break you free from your prison
Hope came down to give us hope
For he alone could offer and be offered.
