Life isn’t fair. We must accept the fact that life is not fair. With all that is going around us one must conclude that it is not fair. Life is never going to be the same again after all this is over. We might be still discovering what the next normal could be.
What are the other conclusions that COVID-19 is leading us to?
On the superficial, it seems that the primary conclusion is that gods are thrown out of the picture. Churches are closed, mosques are closed, temples are closed, all religious traditions are at a pause, it is unprecedented!
Hasn’t all man-made systems bent low before one tiny particle of microbe, they are not strong enough to save us. It does prove that we are not as strong as we boasted.
After conducting over 600 burials in Italy, one of the largest funeral directors said, “A generation has died in just over two weeks. We’ve never seen anything like this, and it just makes you cry.” *
Lock down of international borders, people confined to their houses, and in India, poor migrant workers forced to walk miles without an end, hoping to reach home. “…hunger will kill us before the virus does”, voices the anguish of the masses. We have not seen the face of suffering at such a global scale.
But before we conclude the needlessness of God, there should be more to examine. Although the threatening pandemic may not prove or disprove the role of God, it does prove somethings worth considering.
Often our scientific and social development have negated the need of God for our welfare or even for our existence. We considered ourselves to be self-reliant. And where did we place our confidence? On our sciences and medical sciences, on political powers and on economical structures. Hasn’t it been proved that we are weak even with all our advancements. Hasn’t all man-made systems bent low before one tiny particle of microbe, they are not strong enough to save us. It does prove that we are not as strong as we boasted.
No, what is happening cannot throw God out of the picture. Rather, only God can complete the picture. Only God can give meaning to our suffering and give us a life with an eternal hope.
It seems like, in the darkest moments people give up on God, but the truth is far from it. History has proved it again and again that in their darkest moment people cry out to God. Today the world is crying out to God. We need hope. We need a miracle. We need a Savior.
No, what is happening cannot throw God out of the picture. Rather, only God can complete the picture. Only God can give meaning to our suffering and give us a life with an eternal hope.
COVID-19 has also reminded us that human life is precious and we would do anything to save it. We have witnessed tragic deaths all around the world. If death is the end and nothing after it, we are left without hope. Only God can give meaning to our suffering and give us a life with an eternal hope.
Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it in all its fullness.” The Bible teaches us that we are living in a fallen world which is cursed because of sin, and suffering is inevitable. But there is hope beyond the grave.
What would you choose, to live in confusion and despair? Or, would you choose to live your life with faith and hope in Jesus Christ. Decision is yours.
Life cannot be just this, there has to be more to life.
Death cannot be the end, there must be an eternity.
There has to be.
Thankfully, there is!
