Missing Links
I feel more contribution is needed form South Asia. The first issue of Christian Trends, however was extremely impressive. But there are concerns that a bi-monthly publication will make it difficult to address the issues in a timely way. I hope you will be able to increase the proportion of articles written by South Asians as you move to future issues.

Motivating Words
I am so highly impressed by the first issue of Christian trends I think the design is excellent – very colourful and clean. However, I think that western contributions, however good, will make the magazine seem foreign. And perhaps more importantly, they won’t be dealing with the real texture of Indian life. I think your success will hinge on whether you can convince readers that you are writing about life as they actually encounter it. Not life in the abstract, but life-in-India today. With that in mind I thought the article on Bhutan was particularly effective. Instead of talking about religious freedom in general, it directed its attention to a particular place, contributing information that was new to me and will also be, I suspect, to many of your readers. I am sure your readers readily understand that it is commenting on Indian political concerns. It’s the specificity of the situation in Bhutan that makes it valuable, in my mind. I recently came home from my visit to India convinced that your sense of the need for a national Christian publication was exactly on target.

Sheer Delight
Congratulation on launching this Christian magazine. I must say that you have raised the standard of Christian journalism by putting together a quality Christian magazine. You have done an excellent job of making an attractive and relevant layout and design. It is soothing to the eyes with a balanced presentation of well-written articles. The variety is impressive and the topics covered are excellent. The magazine has something for everyone in the Christian community. It has a huge potential in attracting a large English readership in India and beyond. As I went through the first issue, I sensed there were quite a few western-oriented ideas and perspectives. While recognizing the need for presenting a global perspective, we should guard our Indian ethos and write from an Indian perspective as well. This should reflect in not only the writers selected, but also the topics addresses. We thank the Lord for this initiative and pray that it will be an overall transformation in India and beyond.

| Welcome to Christian Trends magazine! |
God on the Move in South Asia – capturing and engaging with that move while discerning the signs of the times
(1 Chron. 12:32), is what Christian Trends is all about. In our rapidly varying socio-politico-economic setting in South Asia, one needs one constant, a veritas that can be held on to when all else is stripped away.
For Christian Trends, this constant is Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. We believe the changing contexts of society throw up new questions and challenges in all spheres of our lives. We desire to tackle them and inspire and nurture the Church on to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
Now, why another magazine when ‘obsolete’ and ‘redundant’ are the bywords spelt out for the print media? Through Christian Trends, we bring fine evangelical Christian thinking and writings at a popular level that is fair and accurate, Biblically true and sensitive to the Holy Spirit. In this frantic rat-race of life, we offer a saunter in God’s green pastures.
While we want to identify, encourage and nurture new talents, we also bring the best to the table. Our writers come from different cultures, upbringings, ethnicities and nationalities. More than anything, Christian Trends will be about having an open heart and mind, a mirror to ourselves and the Church. I pray that the people, articles, stories, and insights contained inside will help and encourage you on this journey called life. |
